Hofenung Stantsye is a surrealist audio-visual performance that reflects on Jewish identity using the shtetl as the central motif. The installation invites the audience to reexamine the shtetl in the new context of the rave. What if the shtetl had persisted into modernity? Would it have its own form of electronic music culture? What can the community structures of the shtetl tell us about the communal life we want to build, and the homes we want to leave behind?

Using an SP-404 sampler and real-time visual projections, Chaia and visual designer Dan Tombs (Fred. Again, Jon Hopkins) recreate the world of the shtetl, offering the audience a chance to step into the community structures of small-town Eastern Europe. The audience has chances to lie down on the floor, dance a traditional khosidl, and write their dreams for the future. All ages and identities welcome at this multi-sensory experience, which Vashti Media called "a chance to step into a cultural underground."
